Friday after work Kyle and I packed up the car, got Dylan ready and started our trek to Kansas so Dylan could meet all of Kyle’s peeps there. Since we decided to spend Dylan’s first Christmas at home this year, we have not made it to Kansas yet and we figured Spring Break was as good a time as any.
Get ready for lots of photos…
We decided to start the trip around 7:30pm, which is Dylan’s bedtime, in the hopes that Dylan would sleep the majority of the way to Lawrence. Here is Dylan being a bit fussy before getting in the car to start our drive; it was a little past his bedtime. Luckily once we got going Dylan fell asleep and slept the whole way there! We arrived around 5:00am; just in time for Dylan to eat and go back to bed for a few hours. He got lots of sleep… Kyle and I did not.
We spent the night at Anthony and Jessica’s, so Dylan got to meet and spend some time with his uncle Anthony (who I apparently took no pictures of). Jasmine and Samantha absolutely loved Dylan and could not stop touching him and paying him attention.
Here is Jasmine getting to hold Dylan.
And here is Samantha getting her turn with Mr. Dylan.
Dylan’s Uncle Andy drove down from Kansas City to meet him and spend some time with Kyle, but I failed to get in photos of Andy either. I did, however, get some photos of Dylan meeting Sean, Jennifer and baby Maddox. Here we are at the barbecue place where we had lunch on Saturday. Maddox and Dylan seemed to like each other.
After we finished eating we went shopping to find Dylan some KU gear, and it was all too much for little Dylan and Maddox so they crashed out in their carriers while we shopped.
Before leaving on Sunday morning we went to breakfast with Jessica, the girls and Junior (Anthony’s uncle) and here are some photos of us before we left.
Before we could actually leave Lawrence to head to Wichita, Kyle had to take Dylan and show him the KU campus.
We also had to stop by Allen Field House for a photo opp.
After our trip to campus we headed to Wichita and Dylan slept the whole way there.
We got there around 1:30pm, had some lunch and hung out with Kyle’s “mom” and “dad” and Andy’s sister, Erin. Dylan got lots of attention! We had a nice lunch and mom made Kyle’s favorite, Jambalaya, for dinner. Around 7:00pm, we started our bedtime routine with little Dylan. Here are some cute photos of him getting ready for bed.
It seems after all of the driving, Kyle was more tired than Dylan was.
Although he didn’t act too sleepy, Dylan was happy to go to bed.
Kyle and I got some sleep Sunday night as well and then we slept in Monday morning. Once we got up, we took Dylan to meet Anthony’s mom and then we went shopping for jeans for Dylan. We found Dylan two cute pairs of jeans; I am sure he will be modeling them soon.
Before we left on Monday, we met Alex and Sarah Beth for dinner at Old Chicago and Dylan met the last people of his trip.
Here he is with Alex; they were watching SportsCenter on the television above our table.
And here is Dylan with Alex’s wife, Sarah Beth.
Dylan did great at dinner and seemed very happy to meet his new friends. Once we finished eating, we headed back to the Smith’s house to say our good-byes.
Dylan said good-bye to his Nana Smith.
And he said good-bye to his Papa Smith. He was sad to leave.
We left Wichita around 9:00pm and got home around 2:30am. Dylan slept the whole ride home again! All in all, Dylan had a great first trip. Kyle and I were quite proud of him. Everyone was very impressed with his good behavior and can’t wait to see him again.

Anthony and Jessica’s little girls are adoreable!
Sounds like it was a successful first trip for everyone.
Dylan is so cute. Can’t wait to hold him again!
Ya’ll are so smart to do the driving at night while Dylan was asleep. I never would have thought of that but it is a brilliant idea. I’m glad ya’ll had such an enjoyable trip. It makes me want to be brave and take Riley on a road trip to see some relatives.
Yes, I was pleasantly surprised. He did much better than I had anticipated and although driving at night meant a lack of sleep for us (Kyle really), I think it is worth it.
