Dylan gets Poked!

Today was the day I have been dreading… Dylan’s first round of immunization shots.

Dylan’s appointment was at 10:00am, so we got up, ate, took a little nap, ate, got dressed, left for Dr. Curry’s and even managed to make it there a little early. Kyle took the day off from work to go with us because I didn’t know what to expect and thought we might need some help.

Here is Dylan getting psyched up for his appointment.

And here he is looking a little worried once I told him there were shots involved.

Once we got checked in, we waited a few minutes and the nurse called us back. Before Dr. Curry arrived, his nurse went ahead and got Dylan’s measurements. He sure has grown! Dylan weighs in now at 13 pounds 1 ounce which is in the 80th percentile for weight. He is 24 and 1/4 inches in length which is in the 90th percentile for height, so basically, Dylan is a big boy. He is two months old and two feet tall! His head is 15 3/4 inches in diameter which is in the 50th percentile.

After our measurements were complete, we waited patiently for Dr. Curry to come check us out.

Once Dr. Curry arrived, he gave Dylan the once over… checking his ears, nose, throat, boy parts, etc. and pronounced Dylan “a perfect baby.” He was then really nice and answered a barrage of questions from me. :) After talking to Dr. Curry, we have decided to try and start Dylan sleeping in his crib tonight (in his own room)… I am a little nervous about it, but I am sure all will be fine. Dr. Curry called Dylan “so cute” several times and said for us to remember that even though Dylan looks like a four month old and acts like one (as far as most of his “abilities” go), that he is still a wee two month old.

Once the check-up was complete, it was time for the shots.

Here is a picture of Dylan after his examination while he was waiting for the poking. Kyle decided Dylan might need his Soothie pacifier to get him geared up.

The nurse came back in and had Dylan drink some concoction to help him from getting the Rotavirus. Dylan didn’t fuss any while drinking the mixture but he didn’t drink it very quickly and he fidgeted the whole time. He even kicked the nurse (although I am sure he didn’t mean to)! After Dylan was done drinking, it was time for the poking.  Dylan had to get two shots (Hepatitis B, DTP, Polio), so the nurse took one leg and Dr. Curry took the other and said, “Ready, one, two, three,” and then they both poked Dylan at the same time. Poor little guy!

Here is a photo of Kyle consoling the little babe after his shots.

And here is a close-up of little Dylan. :(

Although he did cry (Dylan, not Kyle), he only cried for about 30 seconds and then he was done. We packed him up, and stopped at Hunky’s to pick up some burgers for lunch and then Dylan ate (milk, not burgers) and took a nap in his crib like a big boy.

He has been a little fussy but nothing too bad… hopefully he will sleep well tonight and not be fussy tonight or tomorrow. We will see…

  1. Really? That was the day you were dreading? Not the day you have to go back to work and leave him?

I’m glad his shots went well and he didn’t cry for very long. I hope he stays in a good mood for you and doesn’t have any grumpy reaction to the shots.

Oh and the “worried” pictures is just too cute.

  2. Wow, Maureen… thanks for bringing up going back to work! :)

I go back on Tuesday and I have accepted that (although a little begrudgingly). I will miss him but at least he will be with his dad.

  3. I know, I know. That was harsh; I wasn’t thinking.
I was a wreck the week before I went back and just didn’t want anyone to mention it. I should have thought about that.

That’s awesome that Kyle will get to stay home with Dylan at first. That will probably make the adjustment a bit easier. And you can probably call or text Kyle 50 times a day to check in at first where as a daycare might not really like that.
