Poor Little Dylan

Dylan was a little fussy yesterday and was having some issues with spitting up, sleeping and such and around 4:30 this morning he woke up crying because he was having trouble breathing. His little head was too congested and, unfortunately, he only knows how to breathe out of his nose right now. He even had trouble eating his bottle because his little nose was so stopped up. :(

Kyle and I put some saline drops in his nose and used the nose sucker thing to try and help him out a bit (he did NOT enjoy this). We set up the humidifier and then we propped little Dylan up on his Boppy pillow to sleep some more.

At around 8:30am this morning, he didn’t seem to be doing much better and he seemed a little warm, so I took his temperature and he was running a low-grade fever of around 99. I knew Dr. Curry has office hours on Saturday mornings, so I gave them a call and they told me to bring little Dylan in at 10:30.

So, I rushed around frantically trying to get showered and dressed (Kyle is at a wrestling tournament so we are on our own today), Dylan fed and dressed, and all packed up to go to the doctor. I was a little impressed that we made it a few minutes early. Dylan fell asleep in his carrier on the car ride over, so he was the perfect little patient.

When we were called back, I took him out of his carrier so Dr. Curry could weigh him and then he unzipped Dylan’s sleeper so he could listen to his lungs. He checked his throat, ears and nose and pronounced him healthy. Apparently he is just congested and we are doing everything we can do at the moment to help him get better (btw - I would like to think the Internet for its helpful information on infant congestion).

Dr. Curry was quite impressed with Dylan’s behavior. Dylan was sitting in the chair with me while Dr. Curry explained his findings and all of a sudden Dr. Curry just stoppped and said, “He is so cute. Just look how he is checking me out. What a good little patient.” Yea for Dylan! No fussing or tears at the doctor!

And, apparently, Dylan now weighs in at a whopping 12 pounds! I asked if he was getting to chubby but Dr. Curry checked the growth chart and said Dylan is right on target for his weight gain. In fact, he said, “He weighed nearly nine pounds when he was born, so he really hasn’t gained that much.”

So our first “sick” visit to the doctor was a little nerve-wracking for me, but it all turned out okay since little Dylan is fine and Kyle and I were being good parents after all. :)

Now I just have to take him back in a couple of weeks for his first round of immunizations. YUK! :(

  1. I hope Dylan feels better soon. I’m not sure how Dylan does with massage but you might try this

I tried it a few times with Riley when he was stuffed up and it seemed to help a little.

  2. I hope little Dylan is feeling better this morning!

Brynleigh would like you to tell him “hello” for her; she is looking forward to meeting him soon!

  3. Dylan does seem to be feeling better. I did the little massage on him. I can’t say he enjoyed it but he didn’t seem to mind. I am not sure if it worked or not but he is not as stuffy today.

Dylan is looking forward to meeting Brynleigh as well. She is so small though; he is a little concerned that he might accidentally roll over on her and squish her, but he will try to be extra careful with her. :)
