Dylan’s First Christmas

Kyle and I normally spend Christmas day in Wichita, Kansas, with his “family,” but since Dylan is still so young, we decided to celebrate it at home this year. We opted for a small, quiet Christmas.

Since Dylan is not old enough to really know it is Christmas (or what Christmas is all about), Kyle and I got to sleep in. I woke up around 9:00 to start getting dressed and make our Christmas dinner, and Kyle stayed in bed until about 10:00. My parents were scheduled to arrive around 12:00 (my brother will be up next week so we can do Christmas), so we had plenty of time to get ready.

I dressed Dylan in his Christmas outfit (given to him by his Aunt Cheri), and we got ready to open presents under the Christmas tree.

Here is Dylan in his little Santa get-up.

And here is our Christmas tree.

Kyle and I turned on some Christmas music and positioned Dylan and ourselves beneath the tree so we could begin opening gifts. I will say that we did not purchase Dylan any Christmas gifts (yes, we are bad parents). We figured that he already has SOOO much stuff, AND he does not really know what is going on at this point anyway. We plan on opening a money market account for him instead. Luckily though, one of Kyle’s former students sent Dylan some gifts, so he did have a couple of presents to open. He tore right into his gifts and really seemed like he enjoyed opening the presents.

Here he is opening his first gift.

He was quite happy with his first present (as was Abbey).

Here he is opening his second present. He had gotten the hang of it by this point and didn’t even require any assistance.

I may have been more excited about the contents of this present than Dylan was. It did contain my favorite children’s book which I promptly read to Dylan (it also had a really cute toy in it as well).

After Dylan finished opening his presents, he sat patiently and watched his mom and dad open their presents. Dylan got me a Wii Fit to help work off the remaining pounds he helped me gain! And, since I have been a little jealous of the comfy footed sleepers that Dylan always gets to wear, Kyle bought me my own pair of Sock Monkey sleeper pajamas. Being the big kid (and nerd) that I am, I had to put them on right away.

So, here I am sporting my new pj’s.

The best part of the pj’s are the feet.

Once we finished with presents, I got our Christmas dinner finished and my parents showed up. We had a lovely dinner of spiral sliced ham, dressing, sweet potato casserole, pea salad and green beans. Dylan watched us gorge ourselves as he swung (and slept) in his swing.

All in all, we had a great first Christmas. Dylan will get to celebrate Christmas a few more times before the holiday season is through. Kyle’s “parents” are coming in from Kansas on Saturday and my brother will be here on Wednesday, so Dylan will get in some more practice before next year. We are truly blessed.

We hope you all had a wonderful Christmas with your families as well!

  1. Those are some SWEET pajamas, Angela! I am totally jealous!

  2. Maybe Ben can pick you up a pair! Kyle got them at Target. I think they are even fancier than my Lucky Dog pajamas. :)
