Dylan is 2 weeks old today, so we took him to see Dr. Curry (Best pediatrician of OC) for his first check up. Once we got him all bundled up, we headed out for a trip in the car which calmed him down enough to fall asleep (he has been a little fussy the last day or so).
Here are a few pics of him on the ride over.
When we arrived at Dr. Curry’s office, Dylan waited patiently while I filled out paperwork, and then the nurse came and called us back to exam room 1. Kyle stripped Dylan down to his onesie and the nurse began checking him out. She measured his length which is now 22 1/4 inches - 2 1/4 inches longer than his birth length and in the 90th percentile for height! Then she measured his weight which is now 8 pounds, 11 ounces - 3 ounces more than his birth weight and in the 50th percentile for weight. If this tall and thin trend continues, it looks like Dylan will have the same problem his mom has finding pants that fit; his newborn sleepers are already too short, but the next size up are huge everywhere else on him.
Finally the nurse measured the circumference of his head which measured 13 3/4 inches.
After the nurse checked him out, Kyle held Dylan and we waited for Dr. Curry to arrive. Dr. Curry came in and gave him the once over - checking his eyes, ears, belly button, boy parts, etc. and pronounced him healthy! Hopefully, we won’t have to visit the doctor again until month 2 to begin vaccinations.
We did learn a few things from Dr. Curry while we were there:
- Dylan should be bathed every 2-3 days
- Dylan has entered the “fussy crying” stage
- Dylan’s skin is flaky at this age because he lived in water for 9 months
- Dylan should be eating approximately 2-2 1/2 ounces at each feeding and we should feed on demand now that he has regained his weight
So, all in all, our first doctor visit was a success!
